DegrassiPROMO13

BellMedia has finally released a press release confirming yesterday’s news that Degrassi and After Degrassi are moving to MTV Canada. Included in the press release is the episode description for the first episode back “This Is How We Do It”:

Degrassi’s back in school. Student Council President Drew wants to make sure everyone has a positive year after the devastating loss of Adam. But it’s easier said than done when he’s battling insomnia. Zoë is about to tackle her greatest role yet: “Zoë Rivas, Degrassi Student.” But when you grow up on a film set, how do you know what’s cool in the real world? Alli wants to spend her senior year with her best friends but when Leo flies to be by her side, it’ll take some convincing for the group to accept him as her new BF.

But fans don’t have to wait too long to get their Degrassi fix. On September 26th, MTV Canada and Degrassi.TV will be hosting the first of four webisodes on their websites that feature the character, Eli Goldsworthy.

The digital short series follows Eli Goldsworthy (Munro Chambers) in his adventures after graduating Degrassi. It’s a big, insane, and exciting world out there and Eli’s about to discover that sometimes being at university in New York City is as different, strange, and amazing as living on another planet.

For the past month, Much has made it no secret that they want to focus on comedy and music over teen dramas and comedies by completely wiping their weekly schedule of fan favorites and replacing them with South Park and Jimmy Fallon. They have been keeping quiet over the fate of their former shows while allowing MTV Canada and M3 (formerly MuchMore) announce shows like Teen Wolf, Awkward, and Pretty Little Liars are moving to their channels over Twitter. Finally in a tweet today, MTV Canada has announced that Degrassi is also moving to their channel and is back to its 9PM Slot.

What does this mean?

  • Viewers. For some Canadian fans, they will now have to watch the show online. According to MTV Canada, they are available in 6.8 million households in the nation. That’s 2.5 million less than Much reaches.
  • New opportunities. MTV is teaming up with RBC to hold a contest for MTV Core users to win a trip to the Degrassi set.  One of the ways users can gain entries to the contest is playing a Choose Your Own Adventure game available on their site that features Jessica Tyler and Munro Chambers.
  • The fate of After Degrassi? While the After Degrassi twitter has been active lately, whether After Degrassi is continuing is still unclear. After Degrassi is also moving to MTV Canada.
  • Sharing the same channel as Degrassi alumni Lauren Collins! Yaaaas Paige.
